CHICAGO, IL - - The legacy of actor, model, director, writer and producer Quincy Wong, the Midwest’s top
Asian Pacific American male model, who passed away four years ago today at the age of 48, will be
celebrated at a
Benefit Dinner to launch an Endowment Fund in his honor, Tuesday, September 19,
2006 at the Hilton Chicago, 720 South Michigan Avenue.
Cocktails begin at 5:30 p.m., dinner at
6:30 p.m., with tribute presentations “All About Quincy” to follow. Chicago jazz artist and filmmaker
Tatsu
Aoki
has been named creative director for the event. Anchor/reporter Linda Yu of ABC 7 TV, and reporter
Joanie Lum
of CBS 2 TV (pending final scheduling) will serve as co-emcees. Appearances by other artists
and celebrities are to be announced.

“All About Quincy” celebrates the naming of The Quincy Wong Center for Artistic Expression (33 East
Congress, downtown Chicago), and the official launch of The Quincy Wong Endowment Fund supporting
The Quincy Wong Scholarship for the Arts, all at the Center for Asian Arts and Media of Columbia College
Chicago. The QWEF initiatives are believed to be the first of this kind in the Midwest. Proceeds from the
event will fund The Quincy Wong Endowment Fund created by the Wong family, with a total goal of
$100,000 slated to be funded by December 2006.

The 6”1 charismatic Wong, who belied the Asian Pacific American non-athletic stereotype, appeared in
hundreds of print ads in nearly every magazine, on stage, television, film and in nearly 40 commercials. A
member of SAG and AFTRA, Wong was co-founder with Keith Uchima of the Chicago Asian American
comedy troupe, “Stir-Friday Night!” (in 1995). He was also co-founder (in 1989) and long-time artistic
director of Chicago’s Angel Island Theatre Company. Active in community affairs, Wong frequently
volunteered his performances for charity. A former engineer, avid athlete and sports fan, and Air Force
member, he was in the process of writing two new plays at the time of his death.

The Quincy Wong Endowment Fund recognizes Quincy’s outstanding achievements as an artist and
activist, and his influence in the development of Asian Pacific American arts and the local community in
general,”
said Philip Wong, his brother and benefit chair. “The Wong family is proud to collaborate with the
Center for Asian Arts and Media, a leader in its field, to preserve Quincy’s pioneering legacy,”
he said.

ALL ABOUT QUINCY

Actor, model, director, writer and producer Quincy Wong, the top Asian Pacific American male model in the
Midwest, passed away suddenly, on July 8, 2002 in Evanston, Illinois, at the age of 48. The 6”1 charismatic
Wong, who belied the Asian Pacific American non-athletic stereotype, appeared in hundreds of print ads in
nearly every magazine, on stage, television, film and in nearly 40 commercials.

A member of SAG and AFTRA, Wong was co-founder with Keith Uchima of the Chicago Asian American
comedy troupe, “Stir-Friday Night!” (in 1995). He was also co-founder (in 1989) and long-time artistic
director of Chicago’s Angel Island Theatre Company.

Since his first role playing a Sam Spade-like detective in “Yellow Fever” at the Organic Theater in the early
1980s, Wong acted in professional productions in many off-Loop Chicago area theaters. He appeared in
Steppenwolf Theater’s critically acclaimed “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” which starred Gary Sinise.
Wong appeared as a principal in the CBS-TV shows, “Walker Texas Ranger,” and “Early Edition,” in the
NBC-TV show “Unsolved Mysteries,” and in the Columbia Pictures’ film “Mo, Money,” among many others.
Excerpts from Wong’s “Sayonara, Ms. Saigon,” a musical production for which he created the concept and
was lead writer, were run in a May 2002 production at the Chicago Cultural Center.

Active in community affairs, Wong frequently volunteered his performances for charity. A big fan of children,
he played “Barney” to those attending the popular Japanese American Service Committee’s annual Kodomo
Matsuri holiday celebration. A former engineer, avid athlete and sports fan, and Air Force member, Wong
was in the process of writing two new plays at the time of his death.
